Michal and Maciek have started in Sweden for the 7-th time in their careers. In 2006 they performed in Subaru Impreza WRC bu the due to the engine failure they did not manage to finish the rally. So they were very ecstatic to be back behind the wheel of a WRC car, this time as members of the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team. - It is great pleasure to work with Malcolm Wilson and M-Sport again and to start in such a fantastic and professional team. We’ve done 25 rallies in a Ford Fiesta S2000, and I have also competed in a Fiesta RRC, so I feel pretty confident with the car. I hope the same will be said for the Fiesta WRC - Michal Solowow reported before the rally.
On demanding opening day’s competition on snow and ice-covered roads Michal and Maciek produced a controlled drive and lay 18-th to heading into the second full day of competition. Unfortunatelly during the second day the Polish pairing suffered bad luck - they got stuck in the snowbak for and lost a couple of seconds. - We would like to thank all the fans who rushed to help us and pulled our Fiesta back on the track - Maciek Baran said on the finish in Karlstad.
The winner of the rally was Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Fiesta WRC) who overtook Mikko Hirvonen (Cistroen DS3 WRC) and Mads Ostberg (Ford Fiesta WRC) from Norway. It was Latvala’s second win in Sweden, and It was also the 50th world rally win for the Ford / M-Sport partnership since it started in 1997.
